Our Mission
Our purpose is to help those who want to leave Scientology and the Sea Org, but who lack a system of support that they can rely on while getting on their feet in the outside world.
"Everyone needs a support system and the Aftermath Foundation gave me that." (B.M.)
"I reached out... the help I received was tremendously life saving." (Z.M.)
“I could not have left the Detroit Org and gotten home without their help." (J.T.)
Former Sea Org members tend to be industrious workers, but many have no employment history nor have they had contact with family outside of Scientology. Further, many have no formal education, bank accounts, drivers’ licenses, credit history, and experience with life skills most people take for granted. The challenges one encounters when leaving Scientology and the Sea Org are many. The Aftermath Foundation is devoted to providing resources, support, and advocacy to those who leave so they can gain their independence and make their way in the world. The Aftermath Foundation is also dedicated to raising public awareness of the abusive practices of Scientology.
We are a 501c3 organization recognized by the IRS and an approved charity through the CFC (#43091). All our board members and executives serve on a volunteer basis.
